General biography

Tom Venam is a singer based in Tasmania. Tom sings 20th Century pop and jazz standards, along with Nashville Sound style country music. Tom began taking up singing seriously and playing shows in mid 2021. He sings at shows run by the Hobart Jazz Club, and also sings at the Cradle Music Festival. Tom’s new record, “Tom Croons”, will be released on LP and CD on March 5, 2025.

Inspirations

Tom has been most influenced by the crooners and country singers of the 1950s and 1960s, including Dean Martin, Perry Como, Jim Reeves, Eddy Arnold, Ray Price, Nat King Cole, & Andy Williams. Tom also has a great appreciation for the female singers of the time, including Connie Francis, Dottie West, Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, & Loretta Lynn.

Tom has also found great enjoyment in the American music of the first quarter of the 20th century, including artists like Billy Murray, Henry Burr, Al Jolson, Arthur Fields, and Paul Whiteman.
